Multimedijalni Centar Led Art
GENERAL INFO and CORE ACTIVITIES
The Multimedijalni Centar LED ART (Multimedia Center Ice Art), registered as a citizens’ association, began its formal existence in 1999. The association was primarily formed through the activities of the artistic group “Led Art” founded by Nikola Dzafo in 1993 in the years of social and political turmoil that pushed Yugoslavia into war and complete international isolation during the 90s, with the idea that cultural activity and art is one of the possible ways to survive and not drown in a cataclysmic reality.
The Multimedijalni Centar LED ART, within its two long-term projects “Art Clinic” (2002-2012) and “Shock Cooperative” (2013 -), was established on the principle of collective community, participatory and voluntary work in art and culture.
The activities that most closely determine the operation of LED ART are the care of the art scene in Novi Sad and beyond, encouraging and working with young artists, active work on changing and improving cultural policy, advocating all active and participatory forms of cooperation between individuals and formal and informal groups and institutions to improve the production, presentation, preservation, and development of the contemporary art scene, primarily visual art.
LED ART is currently carrying out its activities within the long-term “Shock Cooperative” project. Shock Cooperative rewrites the given institutional and disciplinary frameworks, and formulates new, unconventional models of cooperation, “playing” through the modalities of center/periphery, private/public space, extra-institutional/institutional, and formal/informal.
The Multimedijalni Centar LED ART (Shock Cooperative) consists of a large number of formal and informal members, while the main activities are designed, managed, and organized by the duty team. What unites all members through the actions of the association is the belief that ONLY CO-OPERATIVES CAN SAVE THE WORLD FROM DISASTER.
MY SPACE CAN OFFER…
An unpredictable, diverse and locally-oriented residency.
The Shock Cooperative program has been held continuously since 2013 and includes exhibitions, presentations, speeches, and other forms that promote contemporary culture and art. The team insists on the active role of art and artists in society, prioritizing a provocative and daring approach to realization. It is held in several Shock spaces and the entrance is free for all visitors. The most prominent space is the Central Gallery of Shock Cooperative. This gallery is an independent space for artists, especially at the beginning of their careers, focusing on experimental approaches in artistic spaces.
The second space is a passage in the main street of Novi Sad city center, also of exhibitions but more specific to the street gallery concept.
The third space which is the youngest and most focused on workshops, lectures, promotions, etc. is the space SKUP (Alliance of Collective Artistic Practice), where the Multimedia Center Led Art with other NGOs, and artistic groups shares space, sources, ideas and makes programs open for the public.
MY SPACE FITS BEST…
